What can one expect of the surrounding neighborhood?
Stepping out of the InterContinental Crete, we found ourselves right in the heart of Ayios Nikolaos, a charming town with so much to offer. The hotel’s street, Akti Koundourou, is lined with cozy cafes, inviting restaurants, a pharmacy, and a convenient supermarket. Just a five-minute walk from the hotel, Ammodi Beach, with its blue flag status, is perfect for a quick dip in the crystal-clear waters. Voulismeni Lake, with its stunning views and vibrant atmosphere, is also only a five-minute walk away. Next to the lake is the bustling shopping street of Ayios Nikolaos, where we enjoyed exploring local shops and picking up unique souvenirs. The marina, a lively spot with boats bobbing in the water and people strolling along the promenade, is just a ten-minute walk from the hotel.
Overall, the surrounding neighborhood of the InterContinental Crete is vibrant and welcoming, making it the ideal place to soak up the local culture and enjoy the best of Crete.
What to expect from the room?
When we walked into our Super King Junior Suite Sea View Private Plunge Pool at the InterContinental Crete, we were instantly charmed. The room had this amazing modern vibe with sleek furniture and stylish decor. The best part? The stunning sea view right from our window. We spent so much time just gazing at the beautiful blue waters.
And the private plunge pool? It was more of a refreshing foot soak, perfect for cooling off while enjoying the view. The king-sized bed was incredibly comfy, making it hard to get up in the mornings. The room also had all the amenities we needed, like a big flat-screen TV, a coffee machine, and a mini-bar stocked with our favorite drinks.
Everything was spotless, and the staff made sure we had everything we needed. It felt like our own little slice of paradise, and we couldn’t have asked for a better room. This is definitely one of the highlights of our InterContinental Crete Review!
How about the restaurants?
When it comes to dining, the InterContinental Crete truly outdid itself. We enjoyed three amazing dinners at the Knossos Restaurant on the 5th floor, right by the main pool. The hotel has two pools: a big one on the 5th floor and another on the top floor. The highlight of our dining experiences was the incredible flavors crafted by 2** Michelin Starred Chef-Consultant Nikos Roussos.
We started with the ‘Skioufihta’ pasta with oven-baked aubergine, tomatoes, and feta cheese—simply divine. The Dakos tomato salad with rye rusks, onion, and mizithra cheese was a must-try, bursting with fresh flavors. We also loved the classic Tzatziki with cucumber and dill, another must-try. For mains, the fish of the day fillet with charred almyra and taramas was exceptional. The rib eye skewer with Greek yoghurt was another standout. We also enjoyed green beans with tomato and mizithra cheese, and the octopus ‘stifado’ with shallots confit.
Every dish was a delightful journey through Cretan cuisine, making our InterContinental Crete review even more memorable!
What about the quality of service and facilities?
The quality of service and facilities at the InterContinental Crete truly blew us away. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They were always ready with a friendly smile and quick to help with anything we needed, whether it was arranging a special request or giving us local tips.
The facilities were just as impressive. We spent lazy afternoons at the main pool on the 5th floor, which was perfect for lounging and cooling off. We also enjoyed the top-floor pool, which had breathtaking views. The fitness center was well-equipped, and we made good use of it during our stay. Plus, we indulged in a relaxing 30-minute massage at the hotel’s spa. Before our massage, we took full advantage of the indoor pool, sauna, hammam, and steam room—an experience we highly recommend. All these touches made our stay at the InterContinental Crete absolutely memorable.
