What Happened with our Car Rental in Malta
Long story short, as soon as we book our flights for Malta, we immediately booked a rental car from okmobility . We prepaid our car of course in order to take the best possible rate and after the payment via our MasterCard, we received a booking confirmation.
1 month before our trip we receive a second email where the instructions about pickup of the car from airport were mentioned! Everything absolutely perfect and professional until the day of our arrival to Malta.
As soon as we arrived in Malta airport, we walked to the Car Rental Building where all Car Rental Companies are , and this is what we came up front! Check the images below.
What Happened Next
We asked the other car rental companies and they told us that this Car Broker has closed their offices in Malta.
So we immediately send them an email and called their Support Center in Spain since it’s a Spanish company. It was Friday, and their call centre was closed already. We also tried to contact them on the emergency telephone number, but they were not replying our calls and emails!
So with no other immediate solution, we rented a car from another company and head over to the hotel.
How we handled the situation
We immediately, informed our bank, and open a chargeback request with MasterCard in order to request our money back, since it wasn’t our fault. The bank informed us that the process can take up to 50 days, however, usually seller provide a refund within 1 working day if you contact them by email (and of course we did).
On Tuesday morning (so basically after 2 working days – Tuesday was the 3rd working day), we did our research and found out that there are so many bad reviews for OKMOBILITY both on Google and TrustPilot. So many people complained about strange charges etc.. So we decided to share this story on our INSTAGRAM channel and of course TAG THEM!
As soon as we did that, after half an hour, a representative from their team contacted us through Instagram and asked for our booking reference matter in order to check this out. We provided the ref number, and his/her reply was to send another email to a specific department that handle such cases. They didn’t even bother to forward the case for us. :P
Long story, short, on the same day, the confirmed us by email that refund is on the way , and the offered us a discount code for the next booking (CS10OK21 is the discount code with the unknown discount rate :P)! Of course there will be no next booking. The refund arrived on the next day.
Now our question is. What if we did not have our Instagram Channel to expose them? Probably they wouldn’t have answered at all , right?
Let us know on Instagram if this happened to you as well and feel free to check out our Malta Itinerary here
